Located in the boardrooms of Warburg Pincus, private equity investment firm, are 64 custom pendants manufactured by Winona Lighting. The interior spaces shown above demonstrate a clean, modern approach that focuses on a variety of finishes, textures, and symmetry. These features are also present in the pendant design.

The 45 inch square custom aluminum housings were manufactured at Winona Lighting. Newmat, a material similar to drumskin, was then installed to conceal the lamping which consisted of (8) 39watt fluorescent biax lamps and (1) 50watt MR-16 flood lamp for additional down light. The 17 inch overall drop allows the light to brightly illuminate the ceiling, while diffuse light passes through the Newmat material.

Visually appealing, yet non-distracting, the long rows of luminaires positioned side by side mimic the extremely long conference table and banquet to give the room an infinite feel. Winona Lighting takes pride in providing solutions for unique design challenges.

Our custom manufacturing capabilities are highlighted in the Warburg Pincus project. For further inspiration visit our portfolio for more custom projects.

When Nokia decided to consolidate its Santa Clara County offices within a portion of a troubled redevelopment project, the architectural design firm Gensler was awarded the task of transforming a structural skeleton into a gleaming corporate headquarters. The 160,000-square-foot, five story Sunnyvale building, demonstrates a whole new way of thinking about the workplace.

Nokia, Finnish based cellphone maker, preserves its Scandinavian heritage with warm wood and bright color everywhere you look. Combine that with “California Cool”: glass, dynamic lighting, modern furnishings, espresso bar, and a pool table and the space is filled with energy. Because this office is active at all hours its design includes wellness suites with daybeds and showers.

The custom lighting is widely varied from area to area and is very integral to the design. Winona Lighting, leader in custom manufacturing, was a logical choice to create the impressive 48″ diameter LED pendants in the front entrance. Suspended 18 feet from the ceiling, these luminaires float above the comfortable seating to bathe the area in light.

Custom acrylic lens material, manufactured using hundreds of pieces of acrylic adhered together, creates the unique light patterns on the lens. Flexible 3000K warm white LEDs wrap around the edge of the acrylic disk. When illuminated, the individual acrylic pieces absorb the light and the lens comes alive with light and texture.

The pendants, in combination with all of the unique design elements used throughout this project, make this office space visually pleasing and inviting to anyone that enters.

The contemporary Drums Series makes a beautiful aesthetic statement in interior spaces ranging from modern to traditional. Thick aluminum walls are hydro-cut in five different patterns and rolled to form the shades for coordinated pendant, ceiling mount, and wall sconce applications. When illuminated the effect is quite striking as the fixture emits diffuse light through the patterns.

In addition to the pattern cut luminaires, Drums also offers a painted wood grain shade that gives a subtle texture and warmth to a space.

The pendants and ceiling mounts are offered in several scale options, and, as always, Winona Lighting can modify your luminaire selection to meet your specifications.

Currently, the Drums Series uses fluorescent lamping as standard. LED versions are under development.

Light dances along the streets of Chicago from Van Buren to Lake Street engaging onlookers in a stimulating light experience. Lightscape, part of the Chicago Loop Alliance, will be a five yearlong custom LED lighting display designed to celebrate Chicago’s historic State Street.

Winona Lighting was selected to manufacture the custom reed shaped housing, integrating Traxon’s XB color changing LEDs that pulsate in synchronization with seasonal-themed music. The luminaires, replacing the high cost temporary holiday lighting of the past, are low emission, energy efficient, and require little maintenance. This installation is proof of Chicago’s smart energy effort and definitely breaks new ground in interactive environments.

The Winona Lighting commitment to LED technology will bring two new products, REVEL and KINDRED, to the marketplace in Spring 2012.

Designed for indoor, ambient applications, these unique forms offer new design opportunities unlike anything you have seen.

Using thin OLED panels, these lightweight forms merge light and sculpture, resulting in a personal experience that is warm and inviting.

REVEL

Each REVEL module offers a new design freedom. The ability to arrange luminaires in any pattern allows light to be delivered where it is needed.

For the first time in ten years, the general public has returned to the World Trade Center site, a day after the 9/11 Memorial had a dedicated opening for victims’ families on the anniversary.

The 9/11 Memorial consists of two enormous reflecting pools set within the original footprints of the fallen towers. The names of 2,983 victims of the attacks of September 11, 2001 and February 23, 1993 are inscribed in bronze surrounding the two pools.

The illumination of the north and south pools, with their 30-foot cascading waterfalls and surrounding bronze names parapet, was achieved by architectural lighting design firm of Fisher Marantz Stone, New York City.

The scope of the project posed many challenges, and Paul Marantz, founder and design principal, imagined in 2005 that LEDs should be used to illuminate the pools and names parapet, which is lit from within so the light shines through the names.

At that time, a linear submersible luminaire that could be placed beneath the waterfalls and offer low maintenance, proper heat dissipation, and high output did not exist. LEDs were destined to become the preferred choice for illuminating the pools as the project developed. Marantz and Winona Lighting’s Director of New Products, Ron Schimmelpfenning, began their discussions regarding what these luminaires would have to withstand and how they had to perform. Schimmelpfenning’s expertise as a custom engineer provided the solutions this project needed.

Before Winona Lighting became involved, the story began with a mock up consisting of an LED fixture enclosed in a housing to protect against moisture. Dan Euser, the fountain engineer, built a 30-foot deep testing area in his Toronto backyard. Winona Lighting, leader in custom manufacturing, was brought on board to help. The company pursued LED development and committed to providing a damp label linear LED system that would run underneath the bronze names parapet and an LED submersible luminaire with low maintenance for the twin reflecting pools. Winona’s patented CoolCore technology, part of the submersible design, was used to prevent overheating.

As you can see in the photo (right), 1500 feet of Winline Submersible 607 (272 luminaires mounted end to end beneath the waterfall), were required to illuminate both pools. As dusk falls, the pools of the Memorial, which is called “Reflecting Absence,” glow around the perimeter.

As visitors approach the pools, the 2,983 names of the victims are illuminated through the inscribed letters of each name in the surrounding bronze parapet. Mounted beneath the parapet are 314 Winline 203W Surface Linear LED luminaires in varying lengths. These fixtures have a very small profile and offer superior output. Remote mounted transformers were used to avoid high voltage in this area where people will be interacting with the structure.

Winona Lighting has also had the privilege of illuminating the outer facades of the west vent structures as well as the entry pavilion of the 9/11 Memorial Museum, scheduled to open next year.

Winona Lighting is very proud and honored to be a part of this place of remembrance today and for generations to come.

Linear recessed luminaires are nothing new to the lighting industry, however, Winona Lighting has transcended this concept to introduce the first of its kind curved linear recessed luminaire called Full Circle.

Gone are the restrictions of straight line luminaires. Using fluorescent T5 lamping, Full Circle allows light to curve and flow through a space with freedom and flexibility that was not attainable until now.

Full Circle is available in four forms; full circle, radius, straight and organic. These forms can be used as individual luminaires or combined to create a unique shape customized to your space.
